Maria Sharapova Wins 2014 French Open

Maria Sharapova has won the 2014 French Open, making it her 2nd win in Roland Garros and her 5th career Grand Slam.

Sharapova defeated Simona Halep 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 to claim the title.

After what sounded like a rendition of the entire Russian national anthem, Sharapova said: "You've had an unbelievable two weeks, Simona.

Congratulations. I'm so emotional right now I don't know what language to speak, English, French, Russian. But to be able to have the chance to stand on this stage two years is incredible for me."

"This is the toughest Grand Slam final I've ever played," Sharapova said.

Sharapova is 20-1 the last three years at Roland Garros — which is nothing compared to Rafael Nadal's 65-1 career French Open mark heading into today's final Sunday against Novak Djokovic, but certainly quite impressive.
